Legal
Privacy notice.
The short version: this website collects nothing about you. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party scripts. What follows says the same thing at the length a lawyer would like.
What this site collects
Nothing. Orbital Ecology sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no tracking pixels and loads no third-party scripts. The typefaces, the imagery and the video are all served from this domain, so visiting a page does not tell any other company that you were here.
There is no account to create, nothing to log in to, and no payment of any kind.
Server logs
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub records requests to its servers, which can include your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser's user-agent string. Those logs belong to GitHub and are handled under GitHub's privacy statement. GitHub Pages does not pass them to us. We do not receive them, cannot query them, and hold no copy.
The live demo
The demo runs entirely inside your browser. When you drop a CSV onto it, that file is read by JavaScript on your own machine and the estimator runs locally. Nothing is uploaded. The file never reaches a server, ours or anyone else's, and closing the tab discards it. You can verify this by disconnecting from the network: the demo still works.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive whatever you put in the message: your name, your address, your employer, and anything you choose to tell us. We use it to reply to you and to carry on the conversation you started. We keep correspondence for as long as the relationship is live, and we do not sell it, rent it, or add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.
The "Book a call" link opens Google Calendar's appointment scheduling. If you use it, Google receives what you enter there under its own privacy policy. You can email us instead and never touch it.
When you send us an operating log
An evaluation involves you sending a historical export from your facility. That is the most sensitive thing we handle, and it is governed by a signed agreement before anything moves, not by this notice. In summary:
- We sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement, and a data sharing agreement covering the file, before you send it.
- The file is used for your evaluation and nothing else. It does not become training data, it is not shared with other operators, and it is not used in our published benchmarks unless you separately agree in writing.
- It is deleted when the evaluation is complete. You get the workings; we do not keep the source data.
- Operating logs are facility data, not personal data, but if a file you send happens to contain names or other personal information, the same terms apply to it.
Your rights
If we hold anything about you, which in practice means an email thread, you can ask us what it is, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us holding it at all. Email cameron@orbitalecology.com and we will answer within thirty days. There is no form and no charge.
Depending on where you live, these rights may come from the UK or EU General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or similar law. We apply them to everyone regardless, because maintaining two standards would be more work than maintaining one.
Where your data goes
We are based in San Diego, California. If you email us from outside the United States, your message crosses a border to reach us. Our host is GitHub, also in the United States.
Children
This site is aimed at people who operate industrial biological systems. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under sixteen.
Changes
If we add anything that collects data, for example a contact form backed by a third-party provider, this page changes before that goes live, and the date below changes with it.
